?? How Do I:??

How to Take the Bus:

If you live in a big city, there will be a bus service that stops at certain locations. To obtain a bus schedule, go to the website of your city's transit authority or look in the phone book for the number of your city or country's transportation authority. They will have schedules, maps, and bus and metro line information.

Buses are numbered or lettered according to their route. You will find the bus number and ultimate destination on the front. above the windshield. Bus stops will have signs containing the numbers of the buses that stop there. Some bus stops are stopping places for a variety of buses, so check the front of the bus to make sure it has the correct destination on the front.

Buses normally cost around $1.25. Check your city's transit authority for discount fares and passes. Some cities offer discounts for disabled and the elderly.

You may pay in change, dollar bills, or present a bus pass that you pay for in advance, A bus pass can save you money if you use the bus regularly.

When you board the bus, you may request a bus transfer at no charge, that you may use to take another bus within a certain period of time, usually within the same day.

How to Get Off the Bus:

  • If you're not familiar with your destination, you may tell the bus driver the street or location where you wish to disembark. Sit behind the driver - he will tell you where to get off.
  • Get on the bus using the front door. If you are sitting in the back of the bus, you may disembark from the back door.

How to Take the Metro (Subway)
Subway stations are located at different locations around your city. To obtain maps of subway stops, see below.

  • When you enter the subway, there should be large map on the wall showing the subway lines and the names and locations of the stops along the lines.
  • Check the map to find the exact name of your stop.
  • Proceed to the ticketing machine. On the front of the machine you will find the one-way price for each of the destinations. If you wish to buy a round-trip ticket, multiply the amount by two.
  • Input FLAT, UNBENT dollar bills. Many machines will not accept bills that are bent in any way, so it is good practice to carry flattened bills.
  • Most machines take $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills, and change. They do not take pennies.
  • Make sure the face on the bill is facing the right direction as shown on the front of the machine otherwise the machine will reject it.
  • Punch in the dollar amount you wish to purchase.
  • You will receive a ticket or token with that amount. You can add amounts to this ticket later by inserting it into the machine. You will receive a new ticket with the added fare.
  • If the machine does not work, or refuses to give you the money, you may ask the attendant for help if there are any on duty. Many stops are unmanned.
  • Go through the turnstile by inserting your ticket or token in the top of the turnstile and walking through it.
