Government:

Miami-Dade county (also called Metro-Dade County) includes the city of Miami, Miami Beach, Coral Gables, and 27 separate localities. Sixty percent of the county is "unincorporated"; that is, it doesn't have a city charter. The county is a mix of dense urban areas, populated suburbs and rural areas.

Local government consists of a 13 member board of county commisioners elected by district. In addition, each city has its own supervisor and council.

The county provides essential services like police, fire, zoning and garbage. Its jurisdiction may overlap with city police and fire departments.
