Writing
Your Resume (CV)
A resume
(also known as a c.v. or curriculum vitae) is a written summary
of your professional qualifications. It is your ticket to a potential
interview and possibly a job. Most large employers will review a number
of resumes before settling on candidates to interview.
A resume
should contain the content below, in the following order:
1. Your
Objective: the reason you are applying for the job, from a professional
standpoint
2. Your
Education: college degrees and any advanced degrees or technical
certificates. Example: a B.S. in electrical engineering with honors
3. Your
Professional Experience:
There are
three general types of resumes, describing your professional experience
and qualifications in different formats:
- chronological
resumes starting with the most recent position applicable to the
job you are seeking
- functional
resumes focus on skills and accomplishments; or a combination
of both.
- combination
resumes combine features of the above two types
4. Other
relevant skills (like foreign languages, computer skills)
5. Community
Activities, Awards, Professional Recognition
