How to proceed with a job search:
- Think
very carefully about your career goals - what you want out of your
career in terms of the professional challenges, lifestyle and opportunities
it offers.
- If you
haven't settled on a career yet, research some fields that might interest
you. If you are in college, you can take an internship with a company
to find out if that field is what you really want. You can also speak
to counselors at your local community college or university, or online
at career sites like these.
- Fee-based
career testing services can test you for your particular aptitudes.
- Research
the jobs that fall in line with your desired career objective
- Research
companies to find out whether they have current openings in your occupation
- Contact
your list of companies via a well-written cover letter and
resume.
- If a
company has an immediate opening, they may contact you for an interview.
Often, companies will not contact you at all if they find your qualifications
might not suit their needs. Don't take it personally. Expect some
rejections.
- If you
require a work visa, you should be prepared to have all materials
ready in case the potential employer isn't familiar with the visa
petition process
- Before
the interiew, bone up on interviewing tips from a career site like
