How to
Live Safely in the U.S.
No matter
where you live in the U.S. it is important to stay alert. Many neighborhoods
participate in a citizen's alert program called "Crime Watch."
Contact your local Police Department for more information.
Tips
on Staying Safe:
(1)
If on foot, look as if you know where you are going. Muggers like to
take advantage of those who look unfamiliar, vulnerable or weak.
(2)
If you have a purse, make sure the pockets face in to your body,
and if the bag is on your shoulder, make sure to hold on to the strap
firmly with one hand. Wallets should not be visible in the back pocket.
(3)
Do not walk in unsafe-looking neighborhoods.
(4)
Stay away from dark and or isolated streets at night.
(5)
ATM (Automatic teller Machine) Tips:
- When
using an ATM machine, especially in a large city, make sure it is
located in a safe area.
- Avoid
using ATM's at night if in an urban area. Many ATM's have security
cameras, but this does not mean you won't be in danger of being mugged.
(6)
Female students who must walk around campus at night should call an
