Parking
in US Cities
Metered
Parking: City parking meters are usually 1/2 to 2 hours. After that
you must refill the meter with change. Many meters take only quarters
while others take dimes and nickels as well.
!
If
you park regularly in a city with many meters, keep about a dozen quarters
in your car at all times for errands
Miami's
new electronic parking meters let you pay with dimes, nickels, quarters
or a debit card, which can be purchased with a valid driver's license
showing a Miami address at some local supermarkets.

Unmetered
Parking: Make sure there are no restricted parking signs or no parking
signs on the block. On certain days parking is prohibited on some blocks
for street cleaning. Other streets require that you move your car after
two hours or you will get a parking ticket, which can be from $15 to
$100. Allotted parking times in these spaces can range widely.
Parking
Lots: Some lots with attendants require that you keep the keys in
the car so the car can be moved if necessary.
!
Keep
your ticket with you. You may not be able to leave the lot if you lose
it.
!
When you park, find out what kind of payment the
lot accepts - some only accept cash, while others accept credit cards
and personal checks as well. Keep cash on hand for emergencies.
