Health Insurance Requirements for J Visa (Exchange Visitor) Holders and their J-2 Dependent(s) under Federal Law(U.S.I.A.):

Your policy must provide for you and your dependent(s):

  • medical benefits of at least $50,000 per accident or illness
  • repatriation of mortal remains in the amount of $7,500
  • medical evacuation to the home country in the amount of $10,000
  • a deductible (the amount for which you are responsible before insurance coverage becomes effective) not to exceed $500 per accident or illness
  • co-payment of medical expenses (the portion not covered by insurance that the insured pays him or herself) of no more than 25%.
  • The policy must be backed by the full faith and credit of your home country government or the company providing the insurance must meet minimum rating requirements established by USIA (an A. M. Best rating of "A-" or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd. (ISI) rating of "A-i" or above, a Standard & Poor's Claims-paying Ability rating of "A-" or above, or a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of B+ or above).
